The Institute Invests in Increased Space, Improved Facilities and New Equipment -

During the summer the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance has initiated a significant refurbishment project in preparation for the new academic year beginning in September. The investment will provide students with more teaching space, improved facilities and new music and technical equipment.

Some of these improvement plans will continue into the autumn term, but are all aimed at equipping the school with the space and technical provision required to continue delivering its top quality courses to new and returning students.

The first floor of Building 1B has been reconfigured making rooms 101b and 102b bigger and improved the sound systems in these rooms. An additional lecture room has been created with a new speaker system and a Tech Suite, which is fully equipped with brand new iMacs. The current keyboard room has been re-oriented and built with a new layout and bespoke desking. In addition to the improvements to the classroom and circulation space the existing lift is being replaced with a new lift this is scheduled to be completed by the end of September

A program of work is currently under way to improve the 1st and 2nd floors of 1A, the work includes extensive redecoration, improvements to the lighting, new floor finishes to the communal area, refurbishment to the ceiling on the 2nd floor and a program of replacing the furniture in the circulation space.

IT infrastructure improvements for the new term will include new servers and broadband provisions to make the use of computer and internet systems faster and increase student’s ability to work and study on campus. All students, tutors and staff will have access to superfast Wi-Fi in all areas of the Institute. The development of a new VLE (Virtual Learning Environment) will soon be rolled out.

Following the initial refurbishment schedule, the Facilities team at the Institute will begin to replace the drum kits in live rooms and will be upgrading the equipment in these rooms to ensure that all are of the same specification in terms of amps, PA systems and lighting.
