Edinburgh Guitar & Music Festival Creates YoungArtist Platform -

Amid a stellar line-up of established international artists, theEdinburgh Guitar & Music Festival has created a performanceplatform for young guitarists with the staging of two competitions.Students aged 11-18 are invited to submit a video or audio clip ofa solo performance that will be judged by a panel. From theentries, finalists will be selected to perform live at a specialevent held during the Festival in the Baron Suite of the EdinburghCorn Exchange on Sunday 26th May 2013.

The Junior category is open to 11-14 year olds, while the Seniorcategory is for guitarists aged 15-18. This second category issponsored by leading Edinburgh reseller and Festival partner RedDog Music.

The initial stage of the competition focuses on the festivalorganisers' video website www.gmftv.co.uk where entrants can submittheir videos and audio clips. They are also encouraged to sharetheir performances via the Festival's social media (if eligible).Performances can feature any musical style and any type of guitar.Those chosen for the final will be informed during March 2013 andwill have the option of performing solo, or with a live backingband.

Three prizes will be awarded in each category: a 1st prize ofgear worth £1750.00, a 2nd prize of gear worth £750.00 and a 3rdprize of gear worth £500.00. Schools that have endorsed the entriesof winning students will also receive a gear cash voucher.

Guitar teachers whose students are selected to perform in thefinal will be offered free stand space in the exhibition areaduring the Festival.
