Welcome to issue 54. I hope you get as much of a kick out of this one as we certainly did piecing it together.

During the filming of our cover feature with Metallica's Kirk Hammett, not only was it a pleasure to chat with the guitar and metal legend himself, but also an honour to play one of the most iconic and revered electric guitars in the history of popular music. Kirk now owns the '59 Les Paul that was previously owned by Peter Green and later, Gary Moore. That very guitar was in our studios a few years back, and it's weighty, and continued history never ceases to dumbfound me. From everyone, at Gi we thank Kirk for letting it grace our pages once again and look forward to the next time.

Joe Satriani is back with an incredible new album, 'What Happens Next,' set for release this month. Satch gives us the lowdown on the record in our exclusive interview, as well as more information on the major G3 tour beginning early 2018.

Sam Bell caught up with two rising stars in the world of instrumental guitar; Nick Johnston and Aaron Marshall. The pair spoke in depth about their projects, the current music scene and their creative process when it comes to constructing new material and releasing it.

In addition to our exclusive lessons from Tom Quayle, Sam Bell, Joe Pesce, Lewis Turner and The Collective School of Music in New York City, we are proud to have Chris Buck join the Gi team. Chris is one of the most exciting young guitar players on the music scene today and has shared the stage with rock music legends such as Slash and Ritchie Blackmore. We hope you enjoy his brand new column exploring the world of modern rock and blues guitar playing.

If that’s not enough for you, there’s more of the latest and greatest gear reviews from around the world of guitar, as well as a fantastic free entry competition to win a LTD Kirk Hammett Demonology electric guitar.
