Rush & Deep Purple Nominated for Rock and Roll Hallof Fame -
A much deserved induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame couldfinally be on the cards for Rush and DeepPurple, reports Classic Rock Magazine.
The legendary British outfit have been eligible for nominationfor the past 20 years and the Canadian prog-rock trio eligible for15. However, both have been constantly overlooked despite callsfrom fans and media alike.
Deep Purple and Rush will findthemselves in contention with Heart, JoanJett and the Blackhearts, Procol Harum,The Paul Butterfield Blues Band, AlbertKing, Kraftwerk, RandyNewman, Donna Summer, PublicEnemy, NWA, Chicand the Marvelettes and the Meters.
In an official statement Rush said:
"We are honoured to be among the nominees for this year's Rockand Roll Hall of Fame. We are especially thrilled for the many,many dedicated fans to whom this nomination is so veryimportant."
Hall of Fame chief exec Joel Peresman says:
"The definition of 'rock and roll' means different things todifferent people, but as broad as the classifications may be, theyall share a common love of the music."
Bands become eligible for induction into the Rock and Roll Hallof Fame 25 years after the initial release of their debut album. Inrecent years a public campaign to have Rush inducted attracted over40,000 signatures.
