PRS SE Custom 24 - 7 String -

PRS has finally let it out that a productionmodel Custom 24 7 string will be available soon. This makes a lotof sense seeing as Dave Weiner has been out on the Road with SteveVai playing a custom 7 string for a while now.

The SE Custom 24 7-String, takes familiar PRSaesthetics and playability to new territory. Using the Custom 24 asa platform, this guitar adds a low-B string to offer increasedversatility to the player who wants more tonal range. No matterwhat style of music you play, this guitar provides extended low-endgrowl, increased chordal variance, and a greater ability toembellish standard chords. This guitar is equally suited to CharlieHunter style jazz as it is to Misha Mansoor Djent.

The SE 7-String features a bevelled maple top with flame mapleveneer and mahogany back, a 24-fret, 25" scale length maple neckwith rosewood fretboard and bird inlays. The electronics packagepairs SE HFS and SE Vintage Bass pickups with a volume, push/pulltone, and 3-way blade switch. The SE HFS and SE Vintage pickupswere designed to mirror the Maryland-made pickups of the same name(used on the Custom since 1991). Originally meaning Hot, Fat, andScreams, the HFS was the evolution of the original Standard treblepickup. The HFS is a powerful pickup with a balance of aggression, clear highs, strong mid-range, and strong bass. Likewise, theVintage bass is the evolution of the original Standard bass pickupand has a warm high-mid sound that is excellent for many musicalstyles.

The guitar is available in both Royal Blue and Vintage Sunburst, but there's no word yet on the price.

It would make sense that the first production model would be anSE as this will gauge the popularity of the concept. We can onlyhope that in time we get to see a high end US version.
