Dire Straits rock legend, Mark Knopfler, honoured fallen war heroes last month as he performed a poignant guitar rendition of the Last Post.

Tyneside-born, Knopfler, dedicated his performance to the 17,000 fallen Northumberland Fusiliers killed in the First World War.

Mark said: “The First World War left its mark on families throughout the UK, and throughout the world.

It is important to remember the sacrifices made, and to think about why wars happen.”

The moving guitar tribute was part of a centenary music project created by Superact, a community based not-for-profit arts organisation.

The Last Post is a mass participation project that will see communities across the UK playing the Last Post on a variety of different instruments to remember lives of World War One.
