A new German company, von Dauer, are offering select, ultra high quality bass guitars, handmade in Germany.

Based in Bavaria the company is dedicated to producing beautifully finished basses that use traditional designs which incorporate new ideas and use the finest components. Not a mass market manufacturer the company prefers to concentrate on the design and quality of a very limited number of instruments that offer the customer a superb bass that they will play and keep for years.

The first model from the company, the Art Bass M1, is now available following rigorous testing of prototype instruments.

Art Bass model M1

A model for the professional, the M1 is a complete re-think on an old theme.

It has superb understated good looks but incorporates new ideas to produce a better bass. The body has a set in scratchplate flush with the top, it is made of ash and stained to create a great overall beauty for the bass. Under the scratchplate the body is chambered. This helps to reduce the overall weight and also gives greater acoustic tones and more sustain.

The headstock, a unique von Dauer design, is slimmer so as to reduce the possibility of neck dive and also to give a stream-lined look to the bass overall. Hipshot tuners have been selected for this model as these also reduce neck weight at the head.

The M1 has a slim narrow neck, with three coats of matt lacquer, designed speed and comfort. A zero fret has been used to give more tension over the nut and improve sustain.

No expense has been spared with the components used on the M1 model - we have used the best that we can find to produce great tone, flexibility with that tone and overall strength for a long life.

The M1 is currently available in three colours: gloss pale yellow and gloss or matt white paint finishes. We have used whitewood for the body as this offers the best tonal qualities for a bass.
