The annual Thanks Jimi Festival in Poland has set a world record for the largest guitar ensemble. Some 7273 guitarists showed up to follow Jimi Hendrix's brother Leon and a talented group of bandleaders in playing 'Hey Joe.'

All participants were registered and given IDs, with organisers approving electric, acoustic, classical and bass guitars.

The bid to create the world's largest ensemble performance on guitar dates back to 2003, when 588 musicians riffed together on Wroclaw's Main Market Square.

The record had been unbroken since 2009, when 6346 enthusiasts descended on central Wroclaw for the event.
