Beatles Vox Guitar Sells for $408,000 atAuction -

A custom made Vox guitar played by both JohnLennon and George Harrison has sold for$408,000 (£269,000) at Julien's Auctions thispast Sunday.

The customized VOX guitar was the centerpiece of the annualMusic Icons auction held Saturday at the New York Hard Rock Cafe bythe Beverly Hills, California-based auctioneers.

Julien's Auctions said the guitar had exceeded its estimatedvalue of $200,000-$300,000 (£132,000-£198,000).

The guitar, which had been at several exhibitions prior toauction, was played by Harrison in a scene from Magical Mysterytour in 1967 in which he performed 'I Am The Walrus' and Lennonused it in the music video from 'Hello, Goodbye' later that year.#

After playing the guitar, Lennon then gave it as a 25th birthdaypresent to Alexis "Magic Alex" Mardas, a member of The Beatles'inner circle in the 1960s.

A plaque on the back reads:

"To Magic Alex/ Alexi thank you/ for been [sic] a friend/2-5-1967 John."
