Let's be honest, PRS knows a thing or two about making a great instrument. In fact, so much so that they are actively changing the standard amongst brands for what's expected quality-wise when purchasing a new electric guitar, no matter what the price point.
With today's announcement of the Paul Reed Smith Signature guitar (The Paul), the Maryland based brand continues its exciting developments with a brand new model—and for Mr Reed Smith it couldn't be more deserved. In a corporate world of conglomerate powerhouses and boring boardroom decisions, Paul Reed Smith is an anomaly. Yes, he can do the math, but first and foremost he's a master luthier, a great player and a true connoisseur of tone. So with that in mind, 'The Paul' is guaranteed to offer a tantalising blend of playability, craftsmanship and sound.
It’s just beautiful
Like the Modern Eagle before it, 'The Paul' is to be distilled with all of his latest discoveries surrounding tone. It is to be a versatile axe as comfortable on stage as in the studio with the tonal flexibility to adapt. His design choices include mahogany bodies with maple tops, Honduran rosewood fretboards, Nitrocellulose finishes, “Brushstroke” bird inlays, and narrow pickup bobbins. The Paul’s Guitar model also includes PRS’s TCI (Tuned Capacitance and Inductance) treble and bass pickups with two mini-toggle switches that allow players to put either or both pickups in either humbucking or true single coil mode.
I don’t just like the newest version of my guitar, I love it. With these new pickups, I can move from a strong bridge pickup to a very clear, “whoopy” neck pickup – you can hear every note – by just setting the mini-toggles and using the 3-way as normal. It’s a highly musical and very usable setup,” said Paul Reed Smith. “This guitar has clear, spanky single coils when you split the pickups but a very full soapbar quality when they are in humbucking mode. It’s just beautiful.
We can't wait to get our hands on one!
