Ronnie Scott’s Autumn Season of International Guitarists

Legendary London Jazz club Ronnie Scott's has announced a series of Autumn shows featuring a wealth of international guitar talent. Here's a full rundown of the upcoming shows.


Monday 17th August – Tuesday 18th August


Bireli Lagrene needs no introduction but is arguably the world's leading gypsy jazz guitarist yet equally comfortable on the electric guitar playing jazz-fusion.  For this two night stint, brings together a veritable All Star Jazz super-group of four players each individually headline artists in their own right. He is joined by hugely gifted Italian, bost-pop pianist, Antonio Farao (best known for his work with Joe Lovano and Chris Potter), legendary bassist Eddie Gomez (the Bill Evans Trio, Chick Corea, Michael Brecker) and master drummer Lenny White (Return to Forever, Miles Davis and others). Expect an evening of top-drawer straight-ahead and gypsy jazz from four masters of their craft.

Monday 14th September  – Tuesday 15th September


Multi award-winning guitarist-composer Antonio Forcione presents music from his most recent album, ‘Sketches of Africa’.  Inspired by tours through the continent of Africa, the album showcases his compositions with local musicians who, together, evoke a joyous homage to a continent still going through immense change.  Expect to be beguiled by beautiful contemporary jazz and world music played with delicacy, poise and effortless virtuosity from a true master.

Monday 5th October  – Tuesday 6th October


World-renowned jazz guitarist and singer, who influenced by performers such as Nat “King” Cole, Frank Sinatra and Joao Gilberto and the songs of composers from Richard Rodgers, George Gershwin to James Taylor, Antonio Carlos Jobim and Lennon & McCartney, has established himself as one of the prime interpreters of the Great American Songbook and beyond, bringing to his work the cool jazz flavor of his brilliant guitar playing and singing.

Monday 19th October  – Tuesday 20th October


World-renowned modern jazz guitarist and innovator equally at home with folksy Americana, genre defying electronica and the Great American Songbook makes a welcome return to Ronnie Scott’s. Over the years Frisell has played with the likes of Paul Motian, John Zorn, Elvis Costello, Ginger Baker, The Los Angeles Philharmonic, Suzanne Vega, Loudon Wainwright III, Van Dyke Parks, Vic Chesnutt, Rickie, Lee Jones, Ron Sexsmith, Vinicius Cantuaria,Marianne Faithful, John Scofield, Jan Garbarek and numerous others, including Bono, Brian Eno, Jon Hassell and Daniel Lanois on the soundtrack for Wim Wenders’ film Million Dollar Hotel. This work has established Frisell as one of the most sought-after guitar voices in contemporary music. The breadth of such performing and recording situations is a testament not only to his singular guitar conception, but his musical versatility as well. However, in recent years, it is Frisell's role as composer and band leader which has garnered him increasing renown and he appears here with his latest project that finds him exploring his singular vision in all string quartet featuring Hank Roberts an equally talented improvising cellist.

Grammy nominated guitarist, composer and producer, Chuck Loeb has had a musical career that spans over four decades.  He has attained the much sought after position as one of the most in demand artists in the world, as well as one with his own recognizable sound.  He is a #1 jazz recording artist; composer of over 250 published songs, network television show themes and scores; a producer of over thirty world-renowned recording artists; as well as an in-demand clinician and educator. Through his illustrious career, Loeb has played and toured with a long list of jazz, pop, rock, and classical greats including Hubert Laws, Chico Hamilton, Freddie Hubbard, Ray Barretto, Gary Burton, Wayne Shorter and Stan Getz among many others.  He is also a member one of the world’s premier jazz outfit Fourplay, with whom he with whom he plays these  rare intimate shows.  The star-studded contemporary jazz super-group’s virtuosic fusion of R&B, pop and jazz has brought them critical acclaim and international successes. In the course of a dozen recordings they have continued to explore the limitless dimensions and permutations of jazz while at the same time appealing to a broad mainstream audience.
