A 1965 Mosrite Ventures V1 once owned by Johnny Ramone has sold at auction for $71,875.
The red guitar was one of a collection of Mosrite models owned by Ramone throughout his career and was sold to the band's former band driver, Gene Frawley.
According to Boston based auctioneers the guitar was used by the punk icon throughout the 1980s, until he sold it in 1990. The guitar has been signed on the body in black marker, "Best always, Johnny Ramone, 5/22/90."
"One of just nine Mosrite guitars owned by Johnny Ramone known to exist - it is not surprising that it was able to achieve such an impressive figure," RR Auction Executive VP Bobby Livingston said in a statement.
In related news Martin Scorsese is set to direct a biopic of the seminal New York outfit which is expected to launch next year to mark the band's 40th anniversary.
