Brand New Collection of Rare Music from Tommy Bolin to be Released -
A brand new collection of rare and previously unreleased tracks from Zephyr & Deep Purple guitarist Tommy Bolin will be released next month via Cleopatra Records.
The album, entitled Whirlwind, includes music Bolin was preparing for his third solo album before his untimely death in 1976 plus recordings from his jazz-rock project Energy. The posthumous release will also feature a mammoth 26-minute version of 'Marching Powder,' called Marching Bag, from his album Teaser.
According to a press release, "the two-CD/two-vinyl set features rare material of Bolin's jazz-rock band ENERGY, an epic 26 minute version of 'Marching Powder' (here called 'Marching Bag') from the album Teaser as well as songs Bolin was preparing for his third solo album before his untimely death in 1976!"
Bolin, who also worked with the James Gang and the Billy Cobham Band, among many others, died in 1976 from a drugs overdose aged 25.
The annual Tommy Bolin Music Festival takes place on August 3 in his home town of Sioux City, Iowa.
