Smashing Pumpkins Begin Writing New Album -

Smashing Pumpkins kingpin Billy Corgan has revealed that the current incarnation of the alt-rock outfit have officially started writing the follow up to 2012's 'Oceania' release.

Corgan tweeted

'Excited to announce today's our 1st official day of writing for new SP album. Wish us luck!'

However, last year Corgan said announced that he had already started writing, stating that his band's next album would be "a cruel record".

He told MTV Hive of the follow-up to 'Oceania':

"I'm starting to write new songs for the next Pumpkins album. I got a lot going on. I have a title for the next album but I won't tell. It's going to be a cruel record. Vengeance is mine."

Corgan has previously said that he hopes to have the follow-up to 'Oceania' out by December 2013.

In related news Smashing Pumpkins will perform three UK dates later this year kicking off on 1st July in Manchester before heading to Glasgow on 2nd July. The band will then travel back to the UK for a one off London date at Wembley Arena on 22nd July.
