Metallica's Self-Titled Début Earns 16th Platinum Certificate

Metallica's 'The Black Album' Earns 16th Platinum Certificate -

The 1991 self-titled album by Metallica is one of the best-selling albums from the band's storied back catalogue.

The classic album, also known as the 'The Black Album,' recently reached the 16 million sale mark and subsequently received its 16th platinum certificate issued by the Recording Industry Association of America. The certification was just one of 10 awarded to the band in the last month.

Metallica's 'Ride the Lightning' album from also received a sixth platinum certificate, and six of their singles 'Nothing Else Matters,' 'Fade to Black,' 'The Unforgiven,' 'For Whom the Bell Tolls,' 'Master of Puppets' and 'The Day That Never Comes' went gold after sales of 500,000.

Additionally, Vintage Vinyl News has also reported that two Metallica ringtones had earned Mastertone Gold certification from the RIAA for amassing 500,000 downloads.
