Rock giants Aerosmith are back in the saddle again after announcing plans for a US tour and an appearance at Milwaukee's Summerfest on July 7th.
Band members Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Tom Hamilton and Joey Kramer held a press conference in Los Angeles yesterday (March 28) to confirm the dates and Tyler told the fans what to expect: "Well, we've been underground for four months doing what we do best, and we've been known to set the world on fire with our type of music, for the last couple of years, to say the least. So, we decided to call this The Global Warming Tour, and come from under the hood, to tell you all that we've got a new album and a new tour."
The 'Global Warming' tour kicks off on June 16th in Minneapolis and continues through another 16 U.S. cities before it's final date in Washington on the 8th August.
Aerosmith's last studio album of original material was 2001's 'Just Push Play' which failed to live up to it's predecessors in terms of sales, as did 'Honkin' On Bobo", the collection of blues covers the band released in 2004
Despite the poor performance of the rockers recent albums in the charts, their live performances remained as popular as ever but the bands last concert which they were scheduled to play the Twin Cities in September 2009 was one of about 20 shows cancelled after Tyler, the bands flamboyant frontman fell from the stage at a gig in Sturgis, South Dakota.
Tyler's injuries led to a period of uncertainty for the group with the singer questioning his place as a member of Aerosmith and his bandmates discussing replacing him. Despite this, Tyler and the rest of the outfit managed to put aside their differences as he went on to become a judge on "American Idol", exposing himself and Aerosmith to a new audience. Their differences were clearly gone when the bands guitarist Joe Perry appeared on the show last week to wish Tyler, who just turned 54, a happy birthday.
Support on the tour will come from Illinois rock band Cheap Trick, who will open the shows on all the US dates. Tickets go onsale March 29th from www.livenation.com/aerosmith
