The Tonare SE T60E represents classic PRS quality in an affordable acoustic-electric that is designed for effortless live performance. Featuring a solid Sitka spruce top and ziricote back and sides on a grand concert body, the T60E produces wonderful acoustic tone that is steeped in crisp top end with just the right amount of low-end colouring for a well-rounded, full tone. Sam Bell tells us more.

I had the pleasure of checking out this great PRS Guitar, and straight out the case, it sounded wonderful. This particular model is part of the SE Range of guitars from PRS, the SE range are much more affordable instruments but still retain a great deal of quality in terms of build, sound and playability. This instrument comes with a high quality Hard Shell case and of course, features the classic PRS Trademark Bird Inlays and Headstock Design.

The PRS SE T60 features a Ziricote Back and sides combined with a solid spruce top. The Tonare Grand body re-enforced with PRS’s Hybrid X/Classical Bracing gives this guitar a broad tone with rolled off highs akin to a Vintage Acoustic Guitar. The tone really pops when it comes to single note playing. Strumming through chords dynamically we can coax a wide range of rich tones from this instrument. The tones we captured in the video simply with a D.I from the Guitar and we also used an AKG 414 to hear the guitar in a different light. The instrument comes with a Fishman GT1 preamp, which is a simple but super high quality pre-amp in the guitar, the volume and tone controls are hidden just behind the sound hole.

The details of this guitar look positively eye popping! The body is binded nicely with a creamy looking Curly Maple wood which continues along the neck which look stunning next to the Zirocote and Solid Sitka Spruce Top. The neck is made from a rich Mahogany and feels great, on the PRS Website, it’s listed as a ‘Wide Fat’ profile neck with a fretboard radius of 11.81. This gives the guitar immense playability without any adjustment. Great for a primarily Electric Guitarist like myself! The Headstock Veneer is Ebony with Curly Maple Binding and of course as mentioned earlier the PRS Trademark Abalone Bird inlays look stunning.

PRS has delivered a fantastic SE Acoustic Instrument here, well worth checking out if you’re in the market for a super high quality and affordable acoustic guitar.
