(PRESS RELEASE): The Guitar Vaults has registered its first documented success. With the the assistance of the website, one of their members Tal Wilkins from Leiden in the Netherlands has been re-united with a guitar that had been stolen. The site, established with the endorsement of Dweezil Zappa and Steve Vai, creates an international database of guitar ownership. Members register pictures, descriptions and serial numbers in order to authenticate ownership. The intention behind the project is to assist guitar owners in getting their instruments back in the event of theft or loss.

And so the news means it works!

The member’s guitar, a white Ibanez RG Series, was stolen while playing with his band in Stockholm, Sweden. Some months later an eagle-eyed member of staff in a pawn shop in Sweden was suspicious of a guitar they had been given for sale. Being aware of theguitarvaults, they checked the guitar’s serial number against the website’s database and noted it had been registered as stolen. After contacting the member via the website to confirm the details they placed the matter, and the guitar, in the hands of the Swedish Police.

Some time elapsed as the necessary checks were carried out by the authorities and, all things being in order, a very happy Tal has been re-united with the guitar.

Steve Vai has been a long-standing supporter of the site and has all of his guitars registered.

He was delighted to hear the that the site helping to return a stolen guitar to one of its members. He invited theguitarvaults to his studio, the Harmony Hut in Los Angeles, where he recorded a short message of congratulations while he autographed and ‘artworked’ an Ibanez JEM Jr as a prize to commemorate the news. The guitar is being given away to a member of the site, drawn at random from all members, at the end of November 2015.
